Masvingo Sculptures was the idea of Doug Dicker, and Australian who has been working full time for many years in Zimbabwe and has built the business to the most successful Shona sculpture supply business in the country.
Since its conception in Australia in 1997, Masvingo has supplied high quality stone sculptures to clients in Holland, Australia, Slovenia, Singapore, UK, Canada, USA, Costa Rica, Mexico and Scotland.
We are proud to be the sole supplier to Muvezi in Canada (now..Mexico) www.muvezi.com who have a vision to help as many people as possible against the ever-present malaria through the sales of the sculptures.
Masvingo specializes in the stone art of the Shona people of Zimbabwe and guarantee a much higher variety and overall quality than can be obtained anywhere else because we are on the ground up to six days per week…..every week….to ensure the carvers have the raw materials to transform into sellable works of art.
Part of our responsibility is to send trucks to the various mines to transport raw stone and deliver it to the sculptor's workshop as well as providing the tools of the trade to those selected artists in need.
This takes a major expense factor from the carvers and frees their mind to do what they do best…ART.
Because of the assistance we provide, Masvingo has access to sculptures at a very reduced cost, which we pass on to the client, making this a very profitable retail venture.
The range of styles is endless so we feel that there is a sculpture for every style of home or office ever built which will add value and prestige.
Within your wholesale order, depending on your requirements, the sizes can range from 10cms to 2 metres with styles representing animals, male and female busts and torsos, stylized and abstract creations.
The sourcing of these sculptures takes us into the back yards and sculpting compounds of a great number of artists who we have forged good relations with over the years.
A number of the artists we work with have held solo workshops and exhibitions in various countries outside of Africa.
We know very well the difficulties that face buyers coming into Zimbabwe, plus the expense. Our business by-passes these obsticals making the buying experience for clients hassel free.
Masvingo deals with over 200 carvers. This has a major impact on their lives as each person has an extended family which means the work Masvingo provides, affects perhaps at least 10 times the amount of sculptors we work with.
Just in 2007 and 2008 alone (to now.. December), Masvingo has sent over 4400 sculptures to various clients around the world.
This obviously has positive results not only in their lives but ours as well, due to the overwhelming sense of accomplishment we feel.
